An Outline of Class & Exam Progression

As with a baby & toddler the age at which they reach the various milestones can vary, even between twins so please don't be concerned if your child doesn't exactly follow this pattern. Every child is individual.

Class Progression Order - Preparatory Stage Ballet & Modern

Class Names

Babes

Babes Plus

Moving On

Who For?

For children approx. 3-6yrs

sometimes younger.

To ease the children's transition from the Babes class into?

If we've had a particularly young class move into Babes Plus they may go through this class to prepare them further for moving on to NATD

syllabus classes.

How Long in Each Stage?

Children generally spend 2-3yrs working through these Preparatory Classes.

When the Teacher sees they are ready to move on he / she will let you know.

We try to move a small group up at the same time to keep them with some children they already know.

Sometimes Babes Plus or Moving On might be just an extra 15mins added to their current class to see how they cope with more technique before moving into the separate class.

This is similar to when your child is moving from nursery into the reception class in school & they go for a visit to get familiar with the new Teacher & class setting.

Interested in Exams?

During this Preparatory Stage children may be entered for NATD Rainbows or Special Yearly Awards.

These are just a few minutes long & are a great way to familiarize the children with the exam routine. They love dressing up in a costume to perform an exercise & dance with their friends.

You receive more information about this several weeks before an exam session.

N.B. While we do encourage you to enter your child when they are ready, it is entirely up to you whether we enter them or not. Tuition remains the same.
